إِذا ما خَلَوتَ الدَهرَ يَوماً فَلا تَقُل
2
خَلَوتُ وَلَكِن قُل عَلَيَّ رَقيبُ
3
وَلا تَحسَبَنَّ اللَهَ يُغفِلُ ما مَضى
4
وَلا أَنَّ ما يَخفى عَلَيهِ يَغيبُ
5
لَهَونا لَعَمرُ اللَهِ حَتّى تَتابَعَت
6
ذُنوبٌ عَلى آثارِهِنَّ ذُنوبُ
7
فَيا لَيتَ أَنَّ اللَهَ يَغفِرُ ما مَضى
8
وَيَأذَنُ في تَوباتِنا فَنَتوبُ
9
إِذا ما مَضى القَرنُ الَّذي كُنتَ فيهِم
10
وَخُلِّفتَ في قَرنٍ فَأَنتَ غَريبُ
11
وَإِنَّ امرَأً قَد سارَ خَمسينَ حِجَّةً
12
إِلى مَنهَلٍ مِن وِردِهِ لَقَريبُ
13
نَسيبُكَ مَن ناجاكَ بِالوِدِّ قَلبُهُ
14
وَلَيسَ لِمَن تَحتَ التُرابِ نَسيبُ
15
فَأَحسِن جَزاءً ما اجتَهَدتَ فَإِنَّما
16
بِقَرضِكَ تُجزى وَالقُروضُ ضُروبُ
English Translation

When you become alone don’t say:
2
“I'm alone” rather say : “A sentinel is present!”
3
And don’t think Allah overlooked your past
4
nor that a hidden sin is absent
5
By Allah, we have been diverted long,
6
until we followed sins with sins
7
Oh! if only Allah forgives the past
8
and permits our repentance
9
If your peers have passed away
10
and you’re left among others, you’re a foreigner then
11
And a man has been walking for fifty years
12
to a spring, soon shall he drink
13
Your kin is whose hear whispers love
14
to you and under dust, man has no kin
15
So well-choose your reward as you
16
will be paid for what you’ve lent
