دَمّي عليَّ من الثرى يا غانية

بالأمس ما أبكاكِ قد أبكانِيَهْ
3
لصبيةٍ عمريّةٍ مضريّةٍ
4
أدركْتُ أسرارَ الثرى في ثانيَةْ
5
وقرعتُ أبوابَ السماءِ مُهلِّلاً
6
وهتَكْتُ أستار الملوكِ علانيَةْ
7
عَرَفَتْ ملوكُ الجنِّ ريحَ عِمامتي
8
ونَكَحْتُ منهم سبعةً وثمانيَةْ
9
ودفنتُ قرْطاً في صفيحةِ قرْمَدٍ
10
وشرِبْتُ من دمِ ذي الصواعِ بآنِيَةْ
11
ولقد نُصِرْتُ بدعوةٍ من والدي
12
شيخٌ على حبسِ الحِمى أسمانيَهْ
13
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
14
أُعْطي إذا ربُّ الملا أعطانيَهْ
15
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
16
أُسقي كؤوسَ المُرِّ من أسقانيَهْ
17
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
18
أُثني لكلّ عظيمةٍ أركانيَهْ
19
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
20
لا يشتكي ضرب الرقابِ سِنانيَهْ
21
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
22
أعلو إذا ودَقُ السحابِ علانيَهْ
23
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
24
فكّاكُ خوْلةَ مجلسٍ تنخانيَهْ
25
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
26
أنِفٌ وعن ما لا يُعِزُّ حشانيَهْ
27
أو لم تكن تدري نُوارُ بأنّني
28
مطلوبُ أوّلَةٍ ومطْلَبُ ثانيَةْ
29
مولودُ تاسعةٍ ووالدُ تاسعٍ
30
قطّاعُ قفرٍ لا يلينُ جنانِيَهْ
31
ليثٌ إذا عضَّ الزمانُ بنابِهِ
32
غيثٌ إذا هبّتْ عليّ يمانِيَةْ
33
نزّالُ أودِيَةٍ تعجُّ سِباعُها
34
لا أرتضي في النائباتِ هوانيَهْ
35
متأبّطٌ يوم الكريهةِ صارماً
36
هضْبٌ إذا فَدْمُ الحِرابِ كسانيَهْ
37
وحجابُ عارِيِةٍ أجابِ لصوتِها
38
فخَضَبْتُ منه الروح حينَ دهانيَهْ
39
ولقد حضَنْتُ الموتَ دونَ حبيبتي
40
وكَرَرْتُ بين الطارقاتِ حِصانيَهْ
41
أقْدَمْتُ مُعتَمِداً على ذي عِزّةٍ
42
فحَمَى حصانيَ منهُمُ وحمانيَهْ
43
سبحانَ من خرّتْ لهَيبةِ مُلْكِهِ
44
جِنُّ البرابرِ وانْجَلَتْ أحزانيَهْ
45
فكأنني بالرمحِ أضرِبُ قائلاً
46
الأرضُ أرضي والزمانُ زمانيَهْ
47
نحن الفراعنةُ الشدادُ تخالُنا
48
من بأسِنا يوم اللقاءِ زبانيَةْ
49
شُعْثُ المفارقِ لم أكُنْ لأَسُودَهُمْ
50
لو لم يرَوْا سمَطَ الدُّخَانِ غشانيَهْ
51
من خيرِ عامِرَ كلّها في منسَبٍ
52
الأصلُ أصليَ والكيانُ كيانيَهْ
53
لي في عُلاَ عُليا سُبَيْعٍ منزِلٌ
54
أُفْضِي إليهِ إذا الزمانُ رمانيَهْ
55
وبنو عمومتنا السهولُ فإنهم
56
رفعوا من اللبناتِ كل مُدانيه
57
الدهرُ يومان فيومٌ فيه
58
ألقاني ويومٌ فيهِ ما ألقانيَهْ
59
أتُلامُ؟ نفسٌ في قناعَتِهَا وقد

أزِفَ الرحيلُ وكُلُّ نفسً فانيَةْ

My blood is upon me from the dust, O enchanting one,
2
Yesterday what made you cry is what made me cry,
3
For a young girl of Amriyah, of the Mudari lineage,
4
I grasped the secrets of the earth in a single moment,
5
I knocked on the doors of the sky, praising aloud,
6
And I tore the veils of kings openly,
7
Even the Kings of the Jinn sensed the scent of my turban,
8
And I married seven and eight of them,
9
I buried a ring in a plate of copper,
10
And I drank from the blood of Dhi al-Sawa’ in a cup,
11
And indeed, I was aided by a prayer from my father,
12
A great sheikh named me as he approached death,

Firm as a hill when war’s blood covers me,

A desperate woman’s call, I answered,

I stained my soul with it, approaching death,

I embraced death for the sake of my beloved,
40
I repeated charge and retreat among the battle’s paths on my horse,
41
I advanced relying on the Mighty One,
42
God protected my horse and me from them,
43
Glory be to Him before whom kingdoms kneel,
44
Even the wild lands trembled, and my sorrows vanished,
45
As if I strike with my spear saying,
46
The land is mine, and time is mine,
47
We are the mighty Al-Fir‘anah, so they think,
48
Our might on the day of meeting seems like angels of wrath,
49
I was not their chief of the disheveled,
50
Had they not seen the smoke of battle covering me,
51
From the best of Banu Amer in lineage, I am,
52
My origin is noble, my being steadfast,
53
I have a high station in the heights of Subay’,
54
I resort to it if time casts me aside,
55
And our cousins of Al-Suhool, for they…

Time has two days, one in which,

One day it humbles me, one day it lifts me,

Shall I be blamed? My soul is content,

فكأنني بالرمحِ أضرِبُ قائلاً
As if I strike with my spear saying,

الأرضُ أرضي والزمانُ زمانيَهْ
The land is mine, and time is mine,
